Traditional Story
Region: Plains
Long ago, the Lakota were warned by a great medicine man that they must prepare for times of need even when they are in times of plenty. But the people in his village did not listen to him, so the man left the community to live alone. Eventually, the food became scarce. A strange visitor begins to visit the medicine man’s tipi at night, eventually leaving a trail into the woods. There, the medicine man finds four bags filled with provisions, including a very important crop — corn.
